Atlas’s season 9 launches with a wipe tonight, but no Industrial Wonder content. The Industrial Wonder is an event that was introduced in Atlas Rises and it brought new challenges for all players. Studio Wildcard and Grapeshot Games have been hyping Atlas’ upcoming wipe for a while now, but it’s really occurring as of this evening. When the servers come back up — about 1 a.m. EDT tomorrow morning – they’ll be covered with Season 9 patch particles.
Season 9 has a revamped map, new Golden Age ruins minibosses (including a deadly cyclops), and the new Maw Waters section with its unique lantern mechanism.
“We’ve uncovered a new territory!” A courageous, maybe stupid Pathfinder pursued the Ships of the Damned across Atlas’ oceans. He returned with stories of a region covered in darkness and unusually heavy fog, animals who disappear or materialize out of thin air, and strange green flames. He returned with a peculiar crystalline material that was soft to the touch yet solid to the touch as confirmation of his discoveries. “Any Pathfinder who journeys to these territories should not trust their sight, since barren swaths of terrain may contain concealed hazards,” he writes in his last notes.
What isn’t included in this update? The intended material for Industrial Wonder. “We have chosen to delete the Industrial Wonder from this patch due to the criticism we got,” the studios state, “so that we have ample time to redesign and modify.”
Atlas was first proposed by the ARK Survival Evolved team in 2018 as an MMORPG sandbox capable of handling 40,000 people per server. It can’t accomplish that, and it doesn’t even have a tenth of that amount of people playing at the same time, and it’s still in early access.
