Introduction
Spit, also known as Speed or Slam, is a shedding-type card game for two players. The objective of the game is to get rid of all of the cards in your hand, and the first player to do so wins the game.
Spit is played with a regular deck of 52 cards. The Ace is high and the Two is low. There are no jokers or wild cards in Spit. Each player is dealt 26 cards, which are then placed face down in front of them in two equal piles. The remaining cards are placed face down in the middle of the players, and this is known as the stock pile.
The top card from each player’s pile is then turned over and placed in the middle between the two players. This forms the starting point of four equal piles, known as foundations, one for each player. The aim of Spit is to build these foundation piles up in sequential order from Ace to King.
To begin play, both players pick up their respective foundation piles and hold them in their hand. They can look at their cards but should keep them concealed from their opponent at all times. Play then alternates between the two players, with each player trying to get rid of all 13 of their cards as quickly as possible.
On a player’s turn, they must first decide whether to spit or play normally. If a player decides to spit, they place any number of cards from their hand face up on the table. Their opponent must then do the same thing. Once both players have spat, the value of the exposed cards are compared using regular poker rules (Aces are high, Twos are low). The player with the highest-valued exposed card starts first and play then proceeds as normal (see below). If there is a tie for highest value card, then those tied players must have a rematch until there is a clear winner who starts first.
If a player decides not to spit on their turn, they simply draw one card from either the stock pile or their opponent’s foundation pile and add it to their hand. They can then either build onto one of their own foundation piles or onto one of their opponent’s foundation piles

This process continues until one of two things happens: either one of the players runs out of cards in their spit pile, or one of the players has a splitcard that is higher than or equal to all other Splitcards currently on display stacked on top of each other (known as a “tower”).

Winning the game
The aim of the game is to get rid of all the cards in your hand. The player with the least amount of cards at the end of the game is the winner.
There are a few ways to get rid of cards:
-Spitting: This is when you put down two cards of the same rank (e.g. two 8s) on top of each other in the centre of the playing area. The player to your left then has to pick up and play all the cards from that spit pile.
-Sets: A set is either three or four cards of the same rank (e.g. three 4s or four 10s). When you put down a set, you can either put it down in front of you so that only you can take it, or in the middle so that anyone can take it. If you put it down in front of you, then you get to draw another card from the deck and carry on playing. If you put it down in the middle, then your turn ends and play passes to the next player.
A player can only take a set from the middle if they have a card which matches one of the ranks in that set (e.g. if there is a set of three 4s in the middle, and a player has a 4, they can take that set). If they don’t have a matching card, then they can draw one from the deck and try to match it that way. If they still can’t match it, then their turn ends and play passes to next player as normal.
-Burning: This is when you put down a 7 on top of another 7 (a double 7). When this happens, any player who has any 7s in their hand must give them all to the person who put down the double 7, and they must also pick up another card from the deck as well!
