PC gaming is not just for desktops and laptops anymore. You can now play your favorite Steam games on your phone. Here’s how to do it.
With a little bit of work, you can play most Steam games on your phone. You’ll need to use either a remote desktop app or a game streaming service, both of which have their own pros and cons.
Remote desktop apps let you effectively control your PC from your phone, which means you can launch and play Steam games as if you were sitting at your computer. The downside is that you’ll need a relatively powerful PC to get good performance, and there will be some input lag due to the nature of the connection.
Game streaming services, on the other hand, stream games from your PC to your phone, so all the processing is done on the computer and you just need a decent internet connection. The downside is that not all games are compatible with all services, and there can be significant input lag depending on your internet connection.
Both methods have their own advantages and disadvantages, so it’s up to you to decide which one is right for you. If you want to try game streaming first, we recommend using Steam’s built-in streaming feature or Nvidia’s GeForce Now service. If you’d rather use a remote desktop app, we recommend using Microsoft Remote Desktop or Splashtop Remote Desktop.
What You Need
In order to play Steam games on your phone, you’ll need the following:
-A Steam account
-The Steam app for Android or iOS
-A compatible game (see the list below)
Once you have all of those things, you’re ready to get started.
Not all Steam games are compatible with the Steam app for mobile devices. Here’s a list of some of the more popular games that you can play on your phone:
-Team Fortress 2
-Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Configure In-Home Streaming
Before you can play a game on your phone, you’ll need to configure In-Home Streaming in the Steam Link app. This will send your computer’s video and audio to your phone.
To get started, open the Steam Link app and tap the menu button in the upper-left corner. Then, select Settings > Computers.
On the next screen, tap Add Computer. If you have a PIN code enabled for your Steam client, you’ll need to enter it here. If not, just leave the field blank and tap Continue.
Your phone will now search for any computers running the Steam client on your local network. If your computer doesn’t show up, make sure that In-Home Streaming is enabled on it by opening the Steam client, navigating to Settings > In-Home Streaming, and checking the box next to Enable streaming outside of home.
Once your computer appears in the list on your phone, tap it to select it. You’ll then be able to choose which games you want to stream to your phone.
Connect Your Phone
To play Steam games on your phone, you’ll need to connect your phone to your computer. You can do this by using a USB cable, or by using a wireless connection.
If you’re using a USB cable, simply connect your phone to your computer with the cable. If you’re using a wireless connection, you’ll need to connect your phone to your computer with a wireless adapter.
Once your phone is connected, open the Steam app on your computer. Click the “Share” button at the top of the window, then click “Settings”. In the “Remote Play” section, click the “Enable Remote Play” checkbox.
After that, you should see your phone’s name in the “Device” drop-down menu. Select it, then click “OK”.
You can now launch any game in your Steam library and play it on your phone. To do so, simply click the “Play” button for any game in your library. The game will start streaming to your phone automatically.
