Switch OLED Model Isn’t Exactly What We Were Hoping For

The first Samsung Galaxy Note 9 underlines the fact that Samsung is using OLED displays for all its mobile devices. Around the same time, LG announced a new TV model using OLED panels. While Samsung is a few years ahead of LG in the OLED department, LG is definitely faster when it comes to OLED TVs. The newest LG models offer more color options, better blacks, better contrast, and better viewing angles.

Samsung has debuted its next-generation Galaxy S21 smartphone, and it’s getting mixed reviews – at least compared to last year’s Galaxy S20. We’ve had a chance to give the device a thorough inspection, and found it to be a decent upgrade from last year.  However, we’re getting a lot of negativity thrown around that the phone is not an OLED model, which is really quite inaccurate. The Galaxy S21 is the first time Samsung has used a new technology for its edge-to-edge display, called AMOLED+.

Over the past few years, there have been rumors that Nintendo will release a more powerful Switch model. According to rumors, the Switch Pro would be a more powerful console, with improved hardware and possibly support for 4k output on TVs. Leaked information has revealed that Nintendo is working with Nvidia to develop its own processor. There was even an idea that it would be a non-portable console to offer better performance.

And a more powerful console is a good idea for a hardcore market. While the Switch and Switch Lite are aimed at an everyday audience, the Switch Pro is aimed at people with 4k TVs who want their games to look as good as possible.

However, this does not apply to the Switch’s OLED model. The OLED model runs on the same hardware as the original. This means it can still operate at 1080p resolution in docked mode and 720p in manual mode (except for the OLED screen). The new model still uses Bluetooth 4.1 (which doesn’t even support Bluetooth headsets), while the standard for 2021 devices is 5.0 or higher.

The only significant change is the console screen, which has been significantly improved. But that really doesn’t justify the price increase or upgrade over the original or lighter models.

If you had hoped for an improved version of Switch, that’s not the case.
